Pippa – Barn Owl (Tyto alba)
Pippa is a Barn Owl that was admitted as a patient in June 2021 at just a few weeks of age. She had fallen from a nest and broke her left leg. The fracture healed, but being a rapidly growing baby the tendon controlling Digit 1 of her left foot did not develop properly. As a result, Pip cannot use the left foot to hunt properly. This would have greatly reduced her chances of survival in the wild such that she was deemed non-releaseable. Pip joined the educational team in December 2021.
