Donnie – Barred Owl

Donnie (a.k.a. Donald Duck) is a male Barred Owl that joined our education team in 2022. He was hit by a car in winter 2021 and sustained a metacarpal fracture in his left wing. While an inpatient, Donnie would make quacking noises at us and we nicknamed him “Donald Duck”. Unfortunately, the fracture never repaired so Donnie cannot fly and cannot be returned to the wild. The decision was made to amputate the injured wing at the wrist joint and seek permission from USF&W to add him to our education team which they granted. Donnie is a very gentle little owl and has fit right in with our other educational ambassadors.
